Japan to continue to support Ukraine in strengthening energy sustainability – Ministry of Energy
Japan will continue to provide support to Ukraine to strengthen energy sustainability, in particular in the field of infrastructure restoration and protection of energy facilities, Energy Minister Svitlana Hrynchuk said.
"Partners clearly understand the importance of assisting Ukraine's energy sector in the face of constant Russian attacks," Hrynchuk noted following a meeting with Japan's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Masashi Nakagome and representatives of the JICA Ukraine Office.
According to her, the meeting discussed the consequences of the recent shelling, the progress of restoration of energy infrastructure, and priorities in the field of energy security.
"For us, the priority now is the rapid increase in equipment reserves and the protection of energy facilities," the minister emphasized.
The parties agreed to accelerate the delivery of assistance already planned by Japan for the energy sector of Ukraine, and also considered the possibilities of involving Japanese companies in cooperation.
Hrynchuk thanked Japan for its constant support and operational assistance, in particular through UNDP Ukraine and JICA, which contributes to the development of decentralized generation and stable operation of the energy system.
"I am grateful to Japan for its strong partnership in the most difficult times for our country. Japan's solidarity and, in particular, the operational assistance of JICA and UNDP Ukraine play an important role in strengthening our energy infrastructure, developing decentralized generation and ensuring stable operation of the power system," she stressed.
The Minister also noted that thanks to Japan's support, the Ukrainian side has an additional opportunity to ensure electricity supply to households and promptly restore damaged capacities in various regions, in particular in Kyiv, Odesa, Dnipro, Kharkiv, Mykolaiv and Kherson.
