Klitschko: Kyiv to install 500 mobile shelters, needs for them to be determined by district administrations

It is planned to install 500 mobile shelters in Kyiv, district state administrations must determine the locations and needs for such shelters, but priority should be given to areas where there is no deep metro or stationary shelters, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko has said on Tuesday.

"The capital plans to install 500 mobile shelters. The executors will be district state administrations, which must determine the locations and needs for such shelters. Let me remind you that the requirements for such shelters are finally clearly defined at the state level, by legislative norms, as it should be," he said in Telegram channel.

The mayor said the issue of expanding the shelter system is a priority for the city, in recent years the capital has allocated over UAH 7 billion for this, almost 2,000 shelters have been repaired.

"There are areas where there is no metro or stationary shelters. First of all, we are talking about residential areas that are remote from the center, the left bank. Mobile shelters are needed precisely in places where it is not possible to equip stationary ones," Klitschko said.

As reported, on October 9, Kyiv City Council supported the purchase of mobile shelters, it is planned to install 500 in different districts. The deputies supported amendments to the City Target Program for Ensuring Readiness for Actions by Purpose of the Territorial Subsystem of the Unified State Civil Protection System of Kyiv for 2024–2025, which extended its operation until 2028 and provided for the purchase of primary (mobile) shelters.
