Military intelligence officers burn Russian radar at Dzhankoy airfield
Fighters of the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine burned the Russian latest radar complex of the occupiers on the territory of temporarily occupied Crimea, the intelligence's press service said.
"Masters of the Unmanned Systems Directorate of the Department of Active Operations of the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine tracked down and accurately hit the expensive radar system camouflaged by Muscovites [Russians] at the Dzhankoy airfield in temporarily occupied Crimea," the service said.
It is noted that Valdai radar is a modern Russian complex designed to detect and combat small-sized UAVs.
The destruction of this facility at the Dzhankoy airfield reduces the effectiveness of the occupiers' air defense system in the southern direction. The video of the destruction was published on the Intelligence Agency's Telegram channel. The destruction operation took place in the evening or at night, when the complex was probably on duty.
The Dzhankoy airfield is used by Russia as an important military base. The 39th helicopter regiment of the 27th mixed aviation division is based here, as well as three squadrons with Mi-8, Mi-35M, Mi-23, Ka-28, Ka-5 helicopters. Helicopters of the Russian FSB Border Guard Service are also located on the airfield.
According to open sources, this complex was first presented at a Russian forum in 2018 as one of the main elements of air defense, capable of disabling drones before they even approach the facility.
Valdai has a three-coordinate radar in the X-band, optical-electronic support modules, a direction finding module for UAV control channels and the ability to connect electronic warfare equipment. The minimum target detection range of this complex is about 300 meters, and for larger targets it can exceed 15 kilometers.
