Capacity of interconnectors sufficient to provide industry with imported electricity – head of Ukrenergo

The established capacity of interstate intersections of power transmission lines, as well as the import potential, enables us to provide Ukrainian industrial consumers with electricity, emphasized Vitaliy Zaichenko, Chairman of the Board of NPC Ukrenergo.
"The capacity of our interconnectors is sufficient to provide our industry with imported electricity," he said during the United News telethon on Monday.
Thus, according to the CEO of NPC Ukrenergo, increasing the volume of targeted electricity imports could protect industry and businesses from the forced application of restrictive measures.
"Imports occur every day, but in my opinion, this import is insufficient. That's why capacity limitation schedules were introduced for industrial enterprises today from 6:00 to 22:00. The power system still lacks capacity after the Russian strikes," said Zaichenko.
He reminded industrial consumers that if an enterprise imports at least 60% of its electricity consumption, it will be protected from possible hourly outages. The Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, No. 1342, dated November 26, 2024, provides this opportunity to businesses and industrial consumers.
As reported, capacity limitation schedules for industrial consumers will be in effect in all Ukrainian regions from 6:00 to 22:00 on Monday.
Ukraine and the EU have agreed to increase the maximum capacity of electricity imports from EU countries to 2.1 GW, up from 1.7 GW, starting December 1, 2024.
Ukraine also has the opportunity to receive an additional 250 MW of guaranteed capacity from the EU in emergency assistance mode.
Starting in March 2025, European transmission system operators will be able to review the capacity limit for commercial electricity exchange between the EU, Ukraine, and Moldova on a monthly basis.
