Svyrydenko on heating season: We follow decisions of local authorities

Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko says that the decision on the start of the heating season is made by local authorities, based on temperature indicators.

"The heating season has already begun for the social sphere. The decision on the start of the heating season is made by local authorities when the average daily temperature does not exceed eight degrees for three days. This is the norm we adhere to," Svyrydenko said during the government question hour in the Verkhovna Rada on Friday.

In turn, Oleksiy Kuleba, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reconstruction and Minister of Communities and Territories Development, noted that local governments have agreed that, for obvious reasons, issues with the heating season will be addressed in close coordination with the government, particularly due to constant enemy shelling.

According to Resolution No. 830 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, dated August 21, 2019, "Local governments decide when to begin and end the heating season, taking into account climatic conditions, building codes, technical operation rules for heating installations and networks, and state sanitary codes. The heating period begins no later than when the average daily outdoor temperature is 8°C or lower for three consecutive days and ends no earlier than when the average daily outdoor temperature exceeds 8°C for three consecutive days."

As reported, Dnipro Mayor Borys Filatov previously stated that due to the situation in Ukraine’s energy sector as a result of Russian shelling, the heating season should begin as late as possible, and it should start simultaneously and centrally throughout the country.
