Veterans Affairs pitches Canada as founding donor to new Veterans Support Fund
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine has invited Canada to become a co-founder and the first donor of the multilateral donor Veterans Support Fund.
"Our state has already taken a significant step forward in shaping a modern veterans’ policy. The next task is to create a unified and stably funded support system so that every service, from rehabilitation to employment, is accessible, convenient and understandable for Defenders and their families. That is why one of the topics of the meeting was the creation of a Veterans Support Fund, which will allow launching large-scale projects even with small contributions," the department said in a statement following the meeting between Minister Natalia Kalmykova and Canada’s Special Representative for the Reconstruction of Ukraine Chrystia Freeland.
It is noted that Ukraine has invited Canada to become a co-founder and the first donor of this Fund.
The Ministry of Veterans Affairs expects that Canada’s initial contribution may become an impetus for the participation of other partners.
"Chrystia Freeland confirmed Canada’s readiness to consider new formats of cooperation. She emphasized that Ukrainian Defenders and Defenders and their families should receive appropriate support, including the creation of quality services and international recovery programs. Ukraine, together with Canada, is taking an important step towards this common goal and is beginning to build the necessary conditions and tools for this," the report says.
As reported, the Ministry of Veterans Affairs proposed to Switzerland to create a multilateral donor Fund to support the veteran community.
