Serhiy Kuznetsov, suspected of undermining Nord Stream, arrested in Germany

Ukrainian citizen Serhiy Kuznetsov, suspected of blowing the Russian Nord Stream gas pipelines in 2022, has been arrested in Germany, the press service of Germany’s Federal Prosecutor’s Office reports.

"An arrest warrant has been executed in connection with the suspicion of sabotage of the Nord Stream gas pipelines. The investigating judge of the Federal Court today (November 28, 2025) executed the arrest warrant for Ukrainian citizen Serhiy K," German prosecutors said.

The office clarified that the suspect was detained on August 21, 2025 in the province of Rimini (Italy) and was extradited to Germany yesterday (November 27, 2025).

As reported, the extradition followed the decision of the Italian Supreme Court, which on November 19 rejected Kuznetsov’s appeal against the decision of the Bologna Court of Appeal, confirming his extradition to Germany.

Kuznetsov himself denies any involvement in sabotage of Russian gas pipelines. As previously reported, German prosecutors accuse Kuznetsov of belonging to a group of individuals who installed devices on pipelines near the Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. He has been charged with conspiracy to cause an explosion, unconstitutional sabotage and the destruction of important facilities.
