Macron to ask Xi Jinping to ‘influence’ Russia to achieve ceasefire in Ukraine – media
During his visit to China on Wednesday, French President Emmanuel Macron will ask Chinese leader Xi Jinping to "influence" Russia to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine, BFM TV reports.
Emmanuel Macron is reportedly scheduled to arrive in Beijing on Wednesday and remain there until Friday. This is his fourth state visit to China since taking office as French President.
During his visit, the French president intends to once again ask his counterpart, Xi Jinping, to "influence" Russia to achieve a ceasefire in Ukraine and to make efforts to restore balance in trade relations between his country and Europe.
"We are counting on China, which, like us, is a permanent member of the Security Council, to influence Russia so that Russia, and in particular Vladimir Putin, finally decides on a ceasefire," French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said on Monday.
