Cabinet sets special price for gas for cogeneration plants in frontline regions – Svyrydenko

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has set a special price for gas for cogeneration plants in frontline regions, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko said.

"The heating season in Ukraine continues amid extremely difficult conditions and daily enemy attacks on the energy sector. New decentralized generation facilities, particularly cogeneration plants, enable communities to bolster their energy resilience amid these challenges. These facilities can produce both heat and electricity simultaneously, ensuring decentralization and additional resilience during outages," Svyrydenko wrote in a Telegram post following Monday's government meeting.

According to Svyrydenko, the government introduced new incentives and opportunities for distributed generation development at the meeting.

She announced that the Cabinet of Ministers reduced the price of natural gas to UAH 19,000 per thousand cubic meters for electricity producers at thermal power plants, combined heat and power plants, and gas turbine and gas piston plants in front-line regions. The price will be valid for one year.

"Why is this important? Many power plants in frontline regions run on gas and ensure the balancing of the power system during peak loads. A stable and predictable gas price enables them to plan their work, enter into new contracts, and provide electricity during critical times," she added.
