SBU counterintelligence exposes 68 Russian agents in Defense Forces since invasion
The military counterintelligence of the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed 68 agents of the Russian special services in the ranks of the Defense Forces of Ukraine since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the SBU reported on its Telegram channel on Thursday.
"In 2025 alone, SBU officers detained 19 Russian moles. So far, ten of them have already received real terms of imprisonment, including seven convicts sentenced to 15 years in prison," the Ukrainian special service said in a statement.
In particular, according to the agency, a major from one of the brigades of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was convicted in the Lviv region, who, as part of the Russian intelligence network, corrected the occupiers’ air attacks on the aviation infrastructure of the region. According to his coordinates, the occupiers hoped to strike at operational airfields and logistics bases for the maintenance of combat aircraft of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
In addition to him, as the Ukrainian special services emphasize, another Russian mole received 15 years in prison - the commander of the Special Operations Forces unit of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who "leaked" to the Russian military intelligence plans for the special force’s combat operations behind enemy lines.
"We are talking about the routes of sabotage and reconnaissance raids of Ukrainian special forces behind the front line in the southern directions of combat operations," the report specifies.
The commander of the self-propelled artillery division of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who tried to pass on secret plans of the Defense Forces in the Kharkiv direction to the enemy, received the same term of imprisonment.
"Another convict is an agent of the 317th intelligence center of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces (better known as GUR who tried to spy on Ukrainian paratroopers under the guise of a chaplain," the SBU said.
Also, since the beginning of this year, military counterintelligence officers of the SBU have neutralized 4 Russian agent networks operating in the Odesa, Zaporizhia, Kherson and Lviv regions.
In addition, during 2025, according to the SBU materials, 77 traitors (from 2022 - 188 people) who joined the ranks of the occupiers to fight against the Defense Forces received 15 years in prison.
"At the same time, during this period, the military counterintelligence of the Security Service prevented the embezzlement of defense funds totaling UAH 33.9 billion (from 2022 - UAH 51 billion)," the SBU said.
In particular, the SBU recalls that the former head of one of the departments of the Ministry of Defense and two of his accomplices were detained in Kyiv, who tried to appropriate UAH 90 million for the purchase of defective anti-tank missile systems for the front.
