Estonia allocates EUR 2 mln to support Ukraine's energy sector

The Estonian Ministry of Climate will support the Ukraine Energy Support Fund with two million euros to help restore Ukraine's energy infrastructure and ensure security of supply.

As reported on the department's website, supporting energy infrastructure is of critical importance to Ukrainian society and is directly related to the country's resilience and people's ability to cope with everyday life.

"Estonia’s support for Ukraine is consistent and long-term. For Ukraine, energy is not merely an economic sector, but a matter of survival. Every restored substation, every functioning generator means a warm home, an operating hospital, and a functioning society. Estonia’s support helps Ukraine cope with the potential challenges of the upcoming winter," said Minister of Energy and the Environment Andres Sutt.

Support to the Energy Fund helps cover the most urgent needs of Ukrainian energy companies, including the procurement of spare parts, generators, and fuel supplies, as well as emergency repair works. Through the Fund, assistance reaches concrete projects quickly, and payments are made directly to suppliers of goods and services, ensuring transparent and controlled use of donations.

Estonia has previously contributed a total of EUR 620,000 to the Fund through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: EUR 50,000 in 2023, EUR 420,000 in 2024, and EUR 150,000 in October this year. Altogether, countries have contributed EUR 1.44 billion to the Fund.

"We want Estonia to set an example for countries that have not yet contributed to the Fund, because supporting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure is a shared responsibility for all of us — it is about defending freedom and democracy," the Minister added.

In addition to financial assistance, Estonia has in cooperation with energy companies sent generators, transformers, and other critical energy equipment to Ukraine, and work continues to identify possible further donations or forms of cooperation.
