Criminal proceedings have been sent to court against a former employee of the Ministry of Defense who tried to profit from the construction of housing for the military, the National Police of Ukraine reports.

"The defendant, together with his accomplices, promised the construction company assistance in winning the competition for the construction of housing for military personnel in Kyiv. The attackers estimated the cost of such "assistance" at $1.3 million, which they planned to receive in three stages: $100,000 before the start of the competition, $400,000 for signing the contract, and another $800,000 after the construction of the first phase of housing," the message on the law enforcement agency's Telegram channel says.

In June 2025, law enforcement officers documented the criminal activities of the scheme participants immediately after they received the first tranche. Based on the evidence collected, the main defendants were notified of suspicion.

Currently, the materials of the criminal proceedings against one of the accomplices have already been sent to court. The pre-trial investigation into the former Defense Ministry official and another accomplice, who are in custody, has been completed.

They face up to 12 years in prison for their crimes.
