Ukraine calls on IAEA Board of Governors to respond to Russian attack – Sybiha

Russia is systematically attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure to create risks of power outages at nuclear facilities, including the Chornobyl NPP and other NPPs, Kyiv calls on the IAEA Board of Governors to respond decisively, Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said.

"While Russian officials speak about the 'importance' of power lines, their forces deliberately strike substations, directly endangering nuclear safety and defying repeated IAEA warnings. This has nothing to do with 'Atoms for Peace.' It is the use of nuclear risk as a tool of coercion," Sybiha wrote on X.

He stressed that Russia's reckless attacks threaten nuclear security.

"Ukraine is intensifying its engagement with the IAEA. We call on the IAEA Board of Governors to react decisively and urgently convene a meeting of the Board of Governors and decide on the matter of Russia’s presence in the Board," the minister wrote.

"Our position is that a terrorist state that deliberately creates nuclear safety risks has no place there," he added.
