Former MP of the seventh convocation and former first deputy head of the Party of Regions faction, Mykhailo Chechetov, has been released from custody after his bail was paid, Interfax-Ukraine has learnt from the Prosecutor General's Office.

Chechetov's lawyer, Serhiy Maliarenko, told Interfax-Ukraine that bail was set at UAH 5 million. However, he didn't disclose the name of the person who paid bail.

The lawyer said that he is waiting outside the Security Service's jail for his client to be freed, as his further detention would be illegal.

Chechetov was arrested on February 21. The ruling is in effect until April 14.

On February 20, the Public Prosecutor's Office said that Chechetov was informed that he is suspected of committing a crime while voting in parliament on January 16, 2014 for laws which restricted civil liberties.

The former MP is suspected of committing a crime under Articles 364 and 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (abuse of power and forgery in public office).
