Militants attacked Ukrainian army positions 23 times over the past day, the anti-terrorist operation press center wrote on Facebook on Wednesday morning.

The staff reported activity in the Donetsk and Mariupol sectors. Ukrainian strongholds near Avdiyivka and the Butivka mine came under attack of 120mm mortars, and 82mm mortars were fired near Leninske, Opytne, Shyrokyne, Mayorsk, Berdianske and Maryinka.

Most shelling incidents were observed near Maryinka, where Ukrainian positions were bombarded by mortars, large-caliber machineguns, grenade launchers and small arms, the staff said. In all, there were six shelling incidents in that area.

The Ukrainian army opened fire on the enemy nine times in order to prevent a dangerous approach of militants, the report said.
