Kyiv region police looking for criminals who attacked Brovary mayor

 The police of Kyiv region are carrying out operational-search measures to detain unknown persons who attacked mayor of Brovary Ihor Sapozhko, criminal proceedings have been launched under the article of "robbery".

"Operational-search measures are now underway to detain the lawbreakers. Operational units, forces and means of the police of Kyiv region are maximally involved in the search for the attackers," the communication department of the regional police said.

Thus, the police opened criminal proceedings under Part 4 of Article 187 (robbery) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine based on this fact. For their actions, the attackers face imprisonment for a period of eight to fifteen years with confiscation of property.

Earlier, the Interfax-Ukraine agency was briefed in the Main Directorate of the National Police of Kyiv region that unknown persons robbed the house of the mayor of Brovary Ihor Sapozhko and beat him in Boryspil district of Kyiv region on Tuesday night.

According to preliminary information, the attackers beat the mayor. Information on the state of his health is being specified. The regional police are taking measures to detain and arrest the lawbreakers.

Sapozhko calls the attack on him political pressure and an attempt to intimidate and force him to withdraw his candidacy from the elections.

"Yesterday at half past nine in the evening, a group of five armed men broke into my house, where there was my family at that time: my wife and nine-year-old son. ... I am convinced that this is not just a robbery in order to take possession of property. I perceive this fact as political pressure and reprisal in its pure form, in order to intimidate and force me to withdraw my candidacy from the elections," wrote Sapozhko on his Facebook page.
