Some 28 children killed with Russian weapons in Ukraine – Children's Ombudsperson
Some 28 children were killed and 64 were injured during the eight days of the war with weapons of the Russian invaders, according to the website of the President of Ukraine on Friday, citing adviser, authorized head of state for children's rights and children's rehabilitation Daria Herasymchuk.
"Maternity hospitals, kindergartens, schools have been destroyed. About one and a half million children are in the territories suffering from shelling and under siege, among them there are orphans and children with disabilities who need immediate help," Herasymchuk said.
In turn, coordinator of humanitarian corridors from the Presidnt's Office Tetiana Lomakina noted that children, like the elderly, and women, in a number of settlements do not receive proper medical care. "Babies are born in basements, and the first thing they hear in their lives is the sound of explosions," she said.
In this regard, the Ukrainian state calls on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to urgently start organizing humanitarian corridors.
