General Director of Ukroboronprom: Earlier we ask for complete ammunition, in rounds, now we producing number of items ourselves

General Director of JSC Ukrainian Defense Industry (formerly the state concern Ukroboronprom) Herman Smetanin said that today we have a fairly wide range of products that Ukraine produces independently.

"Unfortunately, the volume of this production is somewhat behind the production capacity of the aggressor country, but we are increasing production volumes every day," he said at a panel discussion at the International Defense Industries Forum.

Smetanin also noted that in parallel, Ukrainian Defense Industry is working to make it possible to reduce the volume of material and technical assistance for ammunition and the volume of its purchases.

"We hope that we will maintain this pace every day. We will be glad to receive help in industrial cooperation. Because if at the beginning of a full-scale invasion we asked for ammunition as a whole - complete sets, in rounds, today we are already producing a number of items on our own," he emphasized.

As Smetanin noted, by the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, most of the world nomenclatures and artillery shells were not mass-produced by Ukrainian industrial enterprises, which became a big challenge.

Now, according to the general director, work is already underway on a number of mortar rounds and artillery shells in close cooperation with partner countries.

"We are very grateful to you for your help in establishing mass production. For us, the greatest challenge was development, since it takes a long time, but our engineers, designers, and technologists were able to reduce this time for mastering production and launching it. Today we face the challenge of scaling," Smetanin said.

He noted that the President of Ukraine, the President's Office, the Ministry of Strategic Industries and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are actively working to ensure that Ukrainian Defense Industry can receive components through cooperation and increase its own production.
