Duda supports idea of meeting between two govts

Polish President Andrzej Duda supports the idea of a meeting between the Ukrainian and Polish governments with representatives of the European Commission to resolve the situation on the border, Secretary of State of the Office of the President of Poland Andrzej Dera said.

"The President advocates for this dialogue [negotiations with farmers and the Ukrainian side] to take place. This is the only way to solve this huge problem. The problem is bilateral and very powerful. (...) Our farmers are fighting for their livelihood. (...) The Ukrainian people are fighting for their livelihood. The situation is fatal on both sides, from this point of view, because the determination on both sides is enormous, and this problem simply must be solved," the Secretary of State of the Presidential Office said on TVN24.

He said at present there is no other way but negotiations, dialogue and decisions regarding the European Union. Dera said all European farmers are protesting against what is happening to agriculture in the European Union.

The Secretary of State of the President's Office said the President of Poland supports the meeting of the two governments and is making every effort to support and help Ukraine.

"Let's not forget that everything that is happening on the border now, this conflict with grain, with agricultural products, is the result of a war," Dera said.

In his opinion, it is also advisable for Donald Tusk to chair the meeting of the Polish and Ukrainian governments, as well as representatives of the European Union, because everything that happens is related to EU policy.

"This whole conflict arises due to the fact that the standards of agricultural production are different in Ukraine and completely different in the European Union. Therefore, in Ukraine the price for these products is different, and therefore Polish farmers today are fighting for their survival and existence," Dera said.

The Secretary of State of the President's Office also said the idea of a meeting between representatives of the Polish and Ukrainian governments at the border "is not the safest."

"It is better to talk in Warsaw or somewhere in Rzeszow or Lublin, and not necessarily near the border. Of course, these will not be long discussions, because they cannot take place there... The idea is to clear the border," Dera said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Wednesday publicly appealed to Polish President Duda to hold a meeting of the two governments on the Ukrainian-Polish border to resolve problems with its crossing. Zelenskyy announced the participation of the Ukrainian Defense Minister in the negotiations, as strikes at the border are delaying military cargo.
