Zelenskyy announces start of talks with Scholz on comprehensive air defense solutions to further protect Ukrainians

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said that during a meeting in Berlin with German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz, his negotiations started on comprehensive air defense solutions for Ukraine in order to ensure even greater protection for Ukrainians.

The head of state, first of all, thanked the German Chancellor for the decision to provide the third air defense system for Ukraine and for accelerating the delivery time of the system.

"This is important because people live, work, fight and survive every day. Especially in regions where there is a contact line with the occupiers. This is extremely difficult because there are a large number of Russian air bombs," Zelenskyy said at a joint press conference with Scholz at on the sidelines of the conference on the restoration of Ukraine in Berlin.

As the president said, before the start of the press conference in Berlin, he was informed that over the past 24 hours the Russians had fired 135 guided bombs across Ukraine.

"This is a lot. And they are about a ton each. And no system [one, air defense], you understand, can handle this. We need air defense systems. We need complex solutions. Olaf and I talked about these complex solutions today," Zelenskyy said.

At the same time, as the head of state stated, he expects that Ukraine will succeed, although, according to him, this is only the beginning of negotiations.

"Some things need to be talked about quietly, while these things have not yet been decided," he said.

In turn, the Federal Chancellor of Germany stated that "we are constantly expanding and working in this sector [on military assistance to Ukraine and, in particular, air defense]. This will not end for us. This is the central point."

He also expressed hope that Germany will be able to push other partners on the issue of strengthening Ukrainian air defense.
