Ceremonial reception in Kyiv on occasion of Indonesia's Independence Day
А formal diplomatic reception was held in Kyiv on October 17, 2024, hosted by the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Ukraine to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the country's independence.
The gathering welcomed numerous diplomats, government officials, and honored guests, including Ukraine's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Yevhen Perebyinis.
During his speech, Indonesian Ambassador to Ukraine Mr. Arief Muhammad Basalamah, expressed appreciation for Ukraine's support and stressed the need for further strengthening of the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
"We deeply value our friendship with Ukraine, which has been evolving for over three decades. The significance of our diplomatic ties is underscored by the growth in bilateral trade, which reached $443.2 million in the first eight months of 2024," the ambassador said.
The ambassador paid particular attention to Indonesia's achievements under President Joko Widodo's leadership, focusing on infrastructure reforms and the country's economic growth.
"President Widodo has initiated the transformation of Indonesia, notably through significant infrastructure projects, such as new roads, bridges, and airports. These initiatives are key to the long-term growth of our economy and its integration into global markets", he stated.
Mr. Basalamah also elaborated on the country's approach to digital transformation. According to him, Indonesia's digital economy is rapidly developing, opening new opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The ambassador also touched on the development of Indonesia's new capital, Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), currently under construction in the province of East Kalimantan. The new capital symbolizes the Indonesian people's aspiration for sustainable development and decentralization, aiming to become a model of a "green city" based on sustainable development principles.
In addition to economic and infrastructure achievements, the ambassador highlighted cultural and educational efforts aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries. He underscored the value of collaboration in education and culture exchange.
"Our exhibition 'Indonesia through the Lens' in Lviv and Ukrainian universities, along with the signing of a cooperation memorandum between universities, reflect our mutual aim – to foster deeper understanding between our peoples", Arief Muhammad Basalamah said.
Indonesia recognized Ukraine's independence on December 28, 1991, and diplomatic relations between Ukraine and Indonesia were established on June 11, 1992.
