Sybiha invites future German Foreign Minister to Ukraine

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha invited Johann Wadephul, who is planned to be appointed Foreign Minister in the new German government, to come to Ukraine on May 9 as part of a delegation of EU foreign ministers.

“I was pleased to have my first call with Johann Wadephul,” Sybiha wrote on X. “I invited my colleague to join EU foreign ministers on their visit to Ukraine on May 9th, following his appointment,” Sybiha added.

Sybiha noted that he congratulated Wadephul on his nomination for the position and, in a conversation with him, praised yesterday's leadership speech by future Chancellor Friedrich Merz. “I informed Johann about the battlefield situation and Ukraine's peace efforts. I appreciate his consistent personal stance in favor of our shared principles, as well as his reaffirmation today that the next German government will maintain and strengthen its support for Ukraine,” Sybiha wrote.

“We are grateful to Germany for its principled support and look forward to working closely with the next government to restore a fair peace for Ukraine, strengthen European security and sovereignty, and protect our continent's stability,” Sybiha added.
