Language Ombudsman notes importance of opening Ukrainian language courses in Brazil

Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Olena Ivanovska has discussed with the Ukrainian-Brazilian Central Representation Foundation President Vitorio Sorotiuk the importance of opening Ukrainian language courses in Brazil.

"The parties discussed the importance of supporting the Ukrainian language in Brazil as a key element of national identity, as well as the importance of opening Ukrainian language courses," the Commissioner's Secretariat said in a statement.

It is noted that Sorotiuk informed that despite numerous cultural initiatives, there is still no higher education institution in Brazil that would train teachers of the Ukrainian language and literature.

According to him, the State University of the Central West - Unicentro, through the Department of Literature in Irati and the Center for Slavic Studies - NEES, intends to introduce a Portuguese-Ukrainian language and literature course in 2026.

The president of the foundation emphasized the need for educational, methodological and scientific literature and modern methodological materials on the Ukrainian language, which could become the basis for teaching in educational institutions in Brazil.
