Moldovan embassy holds gala reception in honor of Independence Day

The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Ukraine organized a diplomatic reception on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the country's independence.

The celebration was attended by heads of foreign diplomatic missions accredited in Ukraine, representatives of government bodies, including Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleksandr Mishchenko, representatives of the Moldovan diaspora, cultural and educational figures.

The guests honored the memory of all those killed in the Russian-Ukrainian war with a minute of silence, after which the national anthems of Moldova and Ukraine were played.

Opening the event, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Moldova to Ukraine Valeriu Chiver expressed gratitude to the participants for their attention to an important event for his country and congratulated the native speakers of the Romanian language on the recent holiday - Romanian Language Day, which was celebrated for the first time in Ukraine this year.

"Since the beginning of this year, the President of the Republic of Moldova has visited Ukraine twice, and our leaders have met many more times during international summits. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has made three visits, the last of which took place in August for talks with colleagues from Ukraine and Romania. After that, we agreed that this trilateral cooperation will be officially called the "Odesa format," symbolizing our common desire for dialogue and partnership," Kiver noted.

According to him, bilateral relations between Moldova and Ukraine have made significant progress in the fields of energy, infrastructure, education and culture. Among the achievements are joint projects in the field of energy security, cross-border initiatives for the development of trade and transport, the signing of an agreement on the mutual recognition of higher education diplomas, as well as the holding of joint cultural events.

"Moldova remains steadfast in its support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine against the unjust war unleashed by the Russian Federation," the Ambassador emphasized.

He added that this evening became a symbol of strong friendship between the Moldovan and Ukrainian peoples and a reminder of the need for joint efforts for peace and prosperity in the region.

On behalf of the Ukrainian government, congratulations on Moldova's Independence Day were voiced by Deputy Foreign Minister Oleksandr Mischenko.

Diplomatic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine were established on March 10, 1992. The Embassy of Moldova in Kyiv began its work in 1993, and the Embassy of Ukraine in Chisinau - in 1999. The current Ambassador of Moldova to Ukraine Valeriu Chiver presented his credentials and officially assumed his duties in June 2022.
