In Lviv region, almost 500 MW of renewable energy capacity has already been installed, another 700 MW can be installed in the coming years, said head of the regional military administration Maksym Kozytsky.

"Some 500 MW of renewable energy capacity has already been installed in the region, more than 700 MW in projects that can be implemented," said Kozytsky during the Ukrainian Wind Energy Forum-2025 by the Ukrainian Wind Energy Association, which is currently taking place in Lviv.

Later, at a press conference, he clarified that two wind power projects are already being implemented in the region, and nine projects are under development.

"All together, this is more than 700 MW of wind energy for the next few years," he noted.

In a comment to the Energy Reform online portal, he noted that the main RES generation projects in Lviv region are being implemented by Ukrainian private investors.

According to him, utility companies have installed approximately 10 MW of RES.

"There is a program that allows the implementation of RES projects at municipal facilities, primarily hospitals and schools. But these are point projects. This is a reduction in the cost of electricity and earnings from selling its surplus to the network. As for energy independence, only large communities, including Lviv, can afford it, because they have the opportunity to get credit from European and Ukrainian banks," Kozytsky explained.

He added that large communities are modernizing their networks and will increase their generating capacity.
