Ukraine needs extra $1.9 bln for gas imports, much of it already secured – Naftogaz head
Ukraine needs $1.9 billion for additional natural gas imports, a significant part of which has already been secured, said Serhiy Koretsky, Board Chairman of Naftogaz Ukrainy.
"A clear plan for additional gas imports exists. $1.9 billion in additional financing is needed. We have already secured a significant portion of these funds in collaboration with the government. We are cautiously optimistic about attracting the necessary funds to ensure additional imports for the sustainable passage of the autumn-winter period," Koretsky said during a briefing at Ukrinform on Tuesday.
He emphasized that the $1.9 billion in financing is for gas imports until the end of the heating season. Creating an equipment reserve is a separate project that is also underway with partners.
"This amount is intended to ensure consistent imports so that the interconnectors are not overloaded," the Naftogaz head explained.
At the same time, he urged careful management of each cubic meter of gas to "get through the horrors of war together."
As reported, at the same briefing, Koretsky said that a little more than 4 billion cubic meters of gas are needed for the sustainable passage of the autumn-winter period.
