18-year-old boy detained in Dnipro on suspicion of Farion's murder – Interior Ministry
A suspect in the murder of a philologist, former MP of the 6th convocation from the All-Ukrainian association Svoboda, ex-teacher of the Lviv Polytechnic University Iryna Farion, has been detained in the city of Dnipro, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
"Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Klymenko, has just informed me about the detention in Dnipro of a suspect in the murder of Iryna Farion. An 18-year-old boy has been detained," Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram on Thursday.
The Head of State noted that "the detention operation was very difficult."
"These days, hundreds of specialists from the National Police of Ukraine, the SBU and other services have been working on solving the murder … The necessary investigative actions and examinations are continuing. I instructed the Minister of Internal Affairs to provide the public with all the details," Zelenskyy added.
As reported, Farion was shot in the head with a firearm on the evening of July 19 near her home in Lviv. She was taken to the hospital, but doctors were unable to save her life due to her severe injury. Farion died at 23:20 on the same day. A criminal case was opened on the fact of the attempt, which after the death was reclassified to an article on premeditated murder.
