Washington is considering the possibility of including medium-range missiles for F-16 fighters in a new aid package for Kyiv worth $375 million, Politico reported citing a source.

These missiles are used by the U.S. Air Force and Navy and a number of allies, and can hit targets at a distance of more than 100 km, the publication notes.

"The package, which is still being finalized according to two U.S. officials and a person familiar with the issue, will also include artillery munitions, rockets and air defense missiles. The people were granted anonymity to discuss the package ahead of the announcement and acknowledged that the contents could still change before the official announcement is made," the report says.

CNN earlier reported that Washington might delay deliveries due to a shortage of weapons in Pentagon warehouses.

The arms package is likely to include artillery, air defense and other combat-critical munitions, and would represent a significant increase from previous deliveries, which have hovered around $200 million in recent months.

Earlier, it was reported that the Biden administration asked the U.S. Congress to extend the PDA program's authority to supply weapons to Ukraine until 2025.

The White House is asking to include the extension in a resolution to continue funding the government to avoid a "shutdown," since the president's authority to use money for Kyiv expires at the end of September.
