Boris Johnson on conversation between Scholz and Putin: We risk drifting back to ghastly Franco German Normandy format

Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson supported the statement by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that the conversation between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Vladimir Putin is "a Pandora's box. Now there may be other conversations, other calls."

“I am afraid Volodymyr Zelenskyy is completely right. We risk drifting back to the ghastly Franco German Normandy format which treated Russia and Ukraine as equally valid interlocutors in a domestic squabble. That is a shameful betrayal of the reality - that Putin has launched a criminal and unjustifiable invasion while Ukraine is an entirely innocent party,” Johnson said on X.

He also added that “the only way to bring this war to an end is massively and rapidly to strengthen the position of Ukraine.”

Earlier it was reported that German Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz informed Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk about his telephone conversation with Vladimir Putin on Friday.

"Chancellor Scholz has just called me and told me about his conversation with Vladimir Putin. I was pleased to learn that the Chancellor not only clearly condemned Russian aggression, but also repeated the Polish position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine," Tusk wrote on the social network.
