Zelenskyy thanks UK for sanctions against 30 oil tankers
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the UK government for its decision to impose sanctions against 30 oil tankers and several Russian insurance companies.
"I am grateful to the UK for its strong decision to sanction 30 tankers – a significant part of the shadow fleet transporting Russian oil – and several Russian insurance companies. This shadow fleet generates tens of billions of dollars, funding Russia's war machine, while posing severe environmental risks," Zelenskyy said on the X social network on Monday.
The president said the UK leadership underscores the importance of consolidated action. At the European Political Community summit in July, leaders agreed to tighten sanctions on the shadow fleet.
"So it is crucial that this work continues, with other partners, particularly the EU, joining efforts to counter this illicit network. As long as Russian oil revenues remain unchecked, the war risks prolonged aggression, and Moscow lacks incentive to pursue peace. Cutting off this financial lifeline is essential to limiting Russia’s capacity for aggression," Zelenskyy said.
As reported, the UK has included 30 oil tankers in the sanctions lists against Russia, according to updated data from the British government on sanctions.
