Russian troops retreating from Syria, using caravans of aircraft – GUR
To retreat from Syria, the Russian troops have engaged a caravan of military transport planes which they are loading with the remnants of troops, weapons and military equipment, the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine has said on Tuesday.
"Several An-124 and Il-76MD aircraft are scheduled to fly from the Khmeimim Air Base on routes to the Ulyanovsk, Chkalovskiy and Privolzhskiy airfields. Also, the aggressor state uses additional fleet facilities: in particular, in Baltiysk they ordered to prepare dry cargo ship Sparta II№ and large landing ship Alexander Shabalin for departure to Tartus," it said.
Also, large landing ships of the Northern Fleet of Russia Alexander Otrakovsky and Ivan Gren took the course to the Mediterranean Sea. The enemy frigates Admiral Gorshkov and Admiral Golovko are also engaged in the operation of Syrian retreat.
The Russians are also conducting emergency dismantling of equipment and military property in the port of Tartus. Several hundred Russian special forces have already arrived there to ensure the safety of the retreat.
"It is likely that the aggressor state is counting on agreements with anti-government forces for an unimpeded exit from Syria. Even representatives of the so-called Moscow diplomacy no longer call the groups rebelling against the Assad regime 'terrorists', but demonstrate neutral, even 'nice' public rhetoric," GUR said.
The intelligence agency noted that frustration and oppression continue among the remnants of the Russian contingent in Syria.
"Muscovites even express dissatisfaction with their leaders and commanders, in particular their organizational failure," it said, adding that one of the military bases with Russian military personnel is under siege.
