High Anti-Corruption Court sets UAH 100 mln bail for MP Viktor Bondar in procurement fraud case
The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has imposed a UAH 100 million bail as an alternative to detention for a sitting member of parliament accused of embezzling over UAH 140 million in procurement contracts for Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways).
On January 24, 2025, a HACC investigative judge denied a request by detectives of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine, approved by the Acting Prosecutor General, to detain the MP. Instead, the court imposed bail conditions requiring the suspect to remain in Kyiv and surrender all travel documents.
"The decision on whether to appeal will be made after reviewing the court's full ruling," the HACC stated.
Though the MP's name was not disclosed, the case details suggest it involves Viktor Bondar.
The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine notified the MP on January 17, 2025, of suspicion as one of the organizers behind the misappropriation of funds during the procurement of cables for Ukrzaliznytsia.
