Ukrainians gather 100,000 signatures to revoke sanctions against Poroshenko as lawyers file lawsuits with Supreme Court

Attorney Illia Novikov has declared that the sanctions imposed on Petro Poroshenko, leader of the European Solidarity party and a member of parliament, were fabricated. He called on the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) to reverse its decision and announced that relevant lawsuits would soon be filed with the Supreme Court, according to the party's website.

"Financial monitoring, the organization responsible for financial intelligence, has no legal authority to initiate sanctions... We are raising these issues in our lawsuit, which will soon be submitted to the Supreme Court. But that's not where it ends. We are also pursuing criminal accountability for those who falsified and altered documents on official websites responsible for publishing laws and presidential decrees," Novikov stated.

Meanwhile, Ukrainians have gathered 100,000 signatures on a petition demanding the revocation of sanctions against Poroshenko. Additionally, two hundred civil society organizations have signed a corresponding appeal to the NSDC.

Member of Parliament Sofia Fedyna emphasized that the sanctions against Poroshenko have hindered critical military aid for the Armed Forces of Ukraine at a crucial moment. "Zelenskyy imposed sanctions on assistance for the Ukrainian military. Petro Poroshenko, his team, and his charitable foundation have provided aid to the military totaling UAH 7 billion over the three years of full-scale war. This is the largest flow of aid from a single donor in Ukraine," she stated.

MP Volodymyr Viatrovych argued that the unlawful sanctions against Poroshenko undermine Ukraine's European aspirations and serve the enemy's interests. "It is striking that Russia, through its financial monitoring agency, accused Petro Poroshenko of terrorism for funding Ukraine's Armed Forces. And now, we see an ugly mirror image of this from the Ukrainian government, which is attempting – by bending the law – to bring Poroshenko under sanctions, essentially echoing the very accusations made by the Russian Federation," he said.

Novikov believes that "the fastest way to resolve this situation, without waiting for a court ruling, is for the NSDC to simply rescind its decision on its own initiative."
