Germany negotiates with USA to buy Patriot systems, missiles for Ukraine – media
The German government has been negotiating for more than four weeks to buy two Patriot systems and hundreds of missiles for Ukraine from the United States, Bild reported on Thursday.
According to an investigation by Bild, the German government is doing this at the request of the Ukrainian government, convinced that Ukraine can no longer withstand massive Russian air strikes on its infrastructure.
"Although after Ukraine has been unable to reach Washington for two months, the Trump administration also seems unwilling to allow the US defense industry to sell air defense systems to Germany and then transfer them to Ukraine," the publication notes.
"The negotiations were slowed down by high ranking US officials from the very beginning and after the latest Trump shift to not give Ukraine any more PAC3 missiles, it is uncertain if US-German negotiations on the two systems will continue at all," Julian Röpcke, one of the co-authors of the Bild article, wrote on the X platform.
