SBU denies access to secret investigations, calls disclosure claims unfounded

The State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has called the statements of anti-corruption bodies regarding the possible disclosure of information regarding covert investigative actions unfounded, since SBU employees did not receive access to such information.

"We officially inform you: employees of the Security Service of Ukraine did not receive access to information about all covert and operational measures, as well as special operations conducted by the National Anti-corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and Specialized Anti-corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO)... Statements about the possible disclosure by SBU representatives of information regarding covert investigative actions conducted by NABU and SAPO are unfounded and manipulative," the SBU said on Telegram channel on Monday.

According to the message, on July 21, the SBU launched a comprehensive check on compliance with the legislation on state secrets in the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office.

"Exclusively within the limits and in the manner provided for by law, in particular Article 37 of the Law On State Secrets," the SBU notes.

The Ukrainian special service emphasizes that the SBU inspection does not involve familiarization with the content of such documents in general.

"We would like to draw your attention to the fact that conducting urgent investigative actions without a court order is not a violation of the Law - in cases where obtaining such orders may cause a leak of information and, in particular, harm the conduct of special operations within the framework of investigations into cooperation with the aggressor country," the SBU statement says.
