Britain calls for '50-day campaign' to arm Ukraine

British Defence Secretary John Healy has called for a 50-day campaign to arm Ukraine while chairing a meeting of the Contact Group on Ukraine Defence (in the Ramstein format).

"In parallel with the new agreement, which is to ensure that Ukraine is equipped to defend itself, President Trump has also started a countdown – 50 days for Putin to agree to peace or face devastating economic sanctions. And as members of this Contact Group, we must also step up in those 50 days – to provide Ukraine with weapons on the battlefield and help pressure Putin to the negotiating table," he said at the opening of the meeting on Monday.

Healy also announced that he and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius had agreed to a partnership to provide Ukraine with critical air defence missiles.

He also stressed that the UK would provide Ukraine with an additional EUR 40 million as part of NATO’s Comprehensive Assistance Package.
