Ukrainian PM promises at least 30,000 places for displaced people in Kyiv and 15 Regions by end of Aug
At least 30,000 places for evacuees and internally displaced persons will be prepared in Kyiv and 15 other regions by the end of August, Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko announced. She noted that more than 52,000 people have been evacuated from Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions this summer alone.
"'Where should we go?' That is the question people in frontline communities are asking. They are leaving their homes under shelling and looking not for temporary shelter but for a new place to live. By the end of this month, at least 30,000 places will be ready in 15 regions and Kyiv, including for people with limited mobility. Our task is to make sure no one is left alone with the question, 'where should we go?'" she wrote on Telegram.
Svyrydenko said that to ease pressure on the evacuation hub in Pavlohrad, where she was working Tuesday with a government and emergency response team, new transit centers are planned in Lozova and Voloske.
"Ukrzaliznytsia is transporting thousands of evacuees every day using additional rail cars. I have issued instructions to the ministries and agencies involved – from setting up new centers to preparing infrastructure for winter," she added.
Earlier Tuesday, popular blogger Ihor Lachenkov highlighted evacuation problems in frontline towns and villages in Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions, posting a video as evidence.
