SBU arrests Russian agent planning saboteur breakthrough into right-bank Kherson

The State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has prevented new attempts by Russian troops to enter the rear of the Defense Forces in southern Ukraine: an enemy agent who was preparing a breakthrough of Russian special forces to the right bank of the region was detained in Kherson, the SBU has reported.

On Telegram on Wednesday, the Ukrainian special service notes that for this purpose the person involved was supposed to collect intelligence about the territory in the coastal zone and the protection system of defense facilities located near the Dnipro.

"After receiving this data, the occupiers planned to penetrate the territory controlled by Ukraine. Then the enemy's advanced groups were supposed to consolidate in the occupied positions until the approach of the main forces of the Russian military group from the temporarily occupied part of the Kherson region," the SBU said.

According to the SBU, the 37-year-old Kherson resident came into the field of view of Russian military intelligence when he published anti-Ukrainian comments in Telegram channels.

During the data collection, he walked around the coastal area, where he recorded the locations of the Defense Forces. In addition, the man asked local residents for additional information under the guise of everyday conversations in commercial establishments.

Cyber specialists of the SBU documented the intelligence activity of the Russian agent step by step and detained him at his place of residence.

Investigators of the Security Service informed the defendant of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under martial law).

Currently, the attacker is in custody without the right to post bail, he faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.

Comprehensive measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Kherson region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor's office.
