Special envoy Witkoff says Ukraine-Russia peace agreement possible by year-end

US special envoy Steve Witkoff said on Fox News' "Special Report with Bret Baier" that the preconditions for a peace agreement between Ukraine and Russia could be met by the end of the year, or even earlier.
Asked by the host if Putin had said during the Alaska summit that he wanted peace, Witkoff replied in the affirmative.
"There is a peace offer on the table. He (Putin – IF-U) wants... He has certainly said that and I hope he follows through on that statement," Witkoff said.
The host also asked Witkoff "should we force Ukraine to give up territories that Russian troops have not yet conquered?"
"Well, the president has said the only ones who can make that decision are the Ukrainians. That's President Zelenskyy's call. And I think they indicated that it's a more complicated decision than just giving up land. They have to understand what security guarantees are, and they are entitled to understand those things. They have to make sure that this never happens again. That means they are a fiduciary for their people. So we have to address all of those issues," Witkoff replied. "But we understand that. We have technical teams working on it. And we hope that by the end of this year, we will actually, and maybe much sooner, we will actually be able to find the ingredients to get this peace deal done," Trump's special envoy said on Fox News.
