Ukraine localizing 25 foreign defense firms - PM Shmyhal
The number of defense companies that are going to launch their own production in Ukraine and are undergoing the appropriate localization procedure has reached 25, among them are the giants of global defense production, Ukrainian Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal has said.
"Ukraine is actively developing cooperation with foreign companies. Currently, 25 foreign companies, including the giants of global defense production, are at various stages of localization of production of their products in Ukraine," Shmyhal said onTelegram on Friday, recounting a comment he gave to Politico.
According to him, Ukraine is currently offering partners various models of cooperation, including the "Danish model," Build with Ukraine/Build in Ukraine.
"The priority is that the main part of the company's products go to the needs of the Ukrainian army," he noted. Shmyhal also recalled the broad digitalization of the industry, in particular, about Defence City, a special regime for the development of Ukraine's defence industry, which provides for tax breaks, simplification of customs procedures, a mechanism for relocating production to safer regions, expansion of state financial support, and opportunities for export and integration into global chains.
According to data as of November 2024, Ukraine managed to attract more than 40 foreign defence companies to work within the country.
