Dnipro operational group disbanded under corps reform - General Staff

The Dnipro operational-strategic grouping (Dnipro operational-strategic group) has ceased its activities due to the implementation of the corps reform, Major Andriy Kovalev, spokesman for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has told Interfax-Ukraine.

"The Dnipro operational-strategic grouping was not a permanent structure, but a temporary one. Due to the corps adopting their own areas of responsibility and in order to improve troop management, the need for operational-strategic groups has disappeared. That is why the Dnipro operational-strategic grouping has ceased to exist," Kovalev said.

The General Staff noted that Major General Mykhailo Drapaty holds the full-time position of Commander of the Joint Forces Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, while the position of Commander of the Dnipro operational-strategic grouping is not permanent and he held it part-time.

"It should be emphasized that Major General Mykhailo Drapaty will continue to command the appropriate set of troops in the combat zone," Kovalev added.

According to him, the liquidation of the Dnipro operational-strategic grouping will not worsen the controllability of the troops and will not negatively affect the operational situation on the front line.

"On the contrary, these changes are designed to improve the management of the troops. Major General Mykhailo Drapaty remains in the position of commander of the Joint Forces Command and works fruitfully side by side with the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, General Oleksandr Syrsky," the General Staff said.

The Ukrainska Pravda newspaper reported on October 6 that at the end of September 2025, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleksandr Syrsky, disbanded the Dnipro operational-strategic grouping (OSUV), which was headed by Major General Mykhailo Drapaty.

The Dnipro Special Operations Command was responsible for a significant part of the front from Zaporizhia to Kharkiv, including the distribution of ammunition between brigades. Its functions are now being transferred to the groupings of troops and newly formed corps.
