SBU detains 18-year-old Russian informant who planted video surveillance at Ukrzaliznytsia

Counterintelligence agents of the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) have detained an 18-year-old enemy informant who spied on military echelons moving towards the front line through the central regions of Ukraine.

In the Telegram channel on Monday, the SBU reported that the attacker operated in the Poltava and Kirovohrad regions.

"To do this, the defendant installed a hidden mini-camera with an additional battery and remote access for Russian special services at one of the local Ukrzaliznytsia stations," the report said.

According to the Ukrainian special service, in this way the occupiers could track the directions of movement of the Armed Forces of Ukraine freight trains online and calculate the approximate number of armored vehicles being transported towards the front line.

In addition, the attacker tried to identify the location of air defense systems in the central regions. At the instructions of the enemy, he was supposed to send a photo report with geolocations to the curator.

"The enemy’s task was carried out by an 18-year-old resident of the Kremenchuk district, who came to the attention of the occupiers in Telegram channels looking for easy money," the department noted.

SBU officers documented his crimes and detained him at his place of residence. Before that, the Security Service dismantled the spy equipment in advance and took measures to secure the locations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

A phone with evidence of working for the enemy was seized from the suspect.

Security Service investigators informed him of suspicion under Part 2 of Article 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the location of the Armed Forces of Ukraine or other military formations formed in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, committed under martial law).

The perpetrator is in custody without the right to post bail.

The complex measures were carried out by SBU officers in the Poltava region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
