Norway, Netherlands, Germany announce joint support package for Ukraine of NOK 5 bln within PURL
Norway, the Netherlands and Germany announced on Wednesday during a meeting of NATO defense ministers in Brussels that they will finance a new package of NOK5 billion ($500 million) under the Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative for the purchase of US weapons for Ukraine.
The Norwegian government said the military supplies include air defense systems, ammunition and other necessary equipment. The supplies are coordinated by NATO, including through the NSATU.
"It is important that Europe and Norway continue their strong support for Ukraine, both politically and economically, as well as militarily. The goal is to contribute to a solution to the war on Ukraine's terms. Norway will continue its extraordinary support for Ukraine in 2026," Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide said.
The support provided through PURL is complementary to other ongoing initiatives in support of Ukraine, as well as a number of other Allied initiatives that continue to play an important role.
The arms deliveries through the PURL initiative form the basis for the defense of Ukraine’s airspace, especially at a time when Russia is stepping up terrorist attacks on energy infrastructure ahead of winter.
Earlier on Wednesday, Norway announced a contribution of NOK5 billion ($500 million) to finance two new packages under the PURL initiative. Thus, Norway has become the largest donor to the PURL military support packages for Ukraine. The message notes that this concerns military equipment of great importance to Ukraine: air defense systems, ammunition and other critical equipment.
On Monday, Dutch Defense Minister Ruben Brekelmans announced that the Netherlands had announced another EUR 250 million military aid package under the PURL initiative to strengthen Ukraine’s air defenses.
In November, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced another contribution from Berlin to finance a package of American weapons purchases for Ukraine under the NATO-US Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) initiative. According to him, Germany will provide at least EUR 150 million.
