Christmas Eve is a unique time that has a special spirit for Ukrainians and despite all the troubles that Russia has brought, it is not able to occupy or bomb the Ukrainian heart and unity, said President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

"Today is a very special evening. Christmas Eve. It’s a unique time with a special spirit and magic for all of us. This evening is about all of us. It’s about everything that makes Ukrainians Ukrainian. It’s love for their home, their roots, and their traditions. It’s happiness when the whole family gathers around the table. It’s when we finally meet, hug, and ask each other, ‘How are you?’ All of this has always been an integral part of Christmas for us. But for the fourth year in a row—the fourth year of a full-scale war for independence—they are trying to take all of this away from us," Zelenskyy said in his Christmas greeting.

The president noted that today, we are protecting our land, our families, and the desire for peace and tranquility in our homes and among our loved ones. Despite everything, Ukrainians are together, either in person or from a distance.

"This feeling will not be taken away from us. This feeling gives us hope and helps us hold on. Despite everything," the head of state added.

He emphasized that Ukraine is celebrating Christmas in difficult times and that "unfortunately, not all of us are at home this evening. Not all of us have a home. Not all of us are with us today."

"But despite all the trouble Russia has caused, it has not been able to occupy or bomb the most important thing. Our Ukrainian heart, our faith in each other, and our unity," the president said.

Therefore, today, millions of Ukrainians will wait for the first star in the sky. "In the sky of Kyiv, Zakarpattia, Odesa, or Kupiansk — wherever you are. Ukrainians are together today. They celebrate Christmas on the same date, like one big family," Zelenskyy emphasized.
