Over 80% of Ukrainians would vote for joining EU, NATO – poll
Some 81% of Ukrainians are ready to take part in the referendum on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, and 88% of those who intend to take part in such a referendum would vote for joining, and 8% against, according to the results of a sociological survey conducted by the sociological service of the Razumkov Centre on September 20-26 and presented at a press conference at Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.
If a referendum on Ukraine's accession to NATO were to take place in the near future, 82% of respondents would take part in it, and 86% of those who intend to take part in such a referendum would vote for accession, against - 10%.
According to the results of the study, 96% of residents of the west of the country who are going to take part in the referendum (against - 3%), 90% of residents of the center (against 5.5%), 81% of residents of the east (against 13%) and 69% of residents of the south (against 20%) expressed their intention to vote for joining the EU. Some 95% of residents of the west of Ukraine who are going to take part in the referendum (against - 2%), 88.5% of residents of the center (against 8.5%), 78% of residents of the east (against 16%) and 64% of residents of the south (against 26%) expressed their intention to vote for joining NATO.
There is an increase in the share of those who would vote for joining the EU and NATO. In particular, in November-December 2021, some 78% of participants in such a referendum were ready to support joining the EU, and 18% would vote against. At that time, 70% of respondents were ready to vote for joining NATO, while 24.5% were against.
The study was conducted within the Join in! Community Engagement ProgramCivic Engagement Assistance Program, funded by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by Pact in Ukraine.
The face-to-face survey was conducted in all government-controlled regions of Ukraine among 2,016 respondents aged 18 years and older. The sample structure reproduces the demographic structure of the adult population of the territories where the survey was conducted as of the beginning of 2022 (by age, gender, and type of settlement). The theoretical sampling error does not exceed 2.3%. Additional systematic deviations in the sample may be due to the consequences of Russian aggression, in particular, forced evacuation.
