Macron hopes that peace in Ukraine to be achieved by 2027, calls for increased pressure on Russia

French President Emmanuel Macron expressed hope that peace in Ukraine, which is struggling with Russian aggression, will be achieved by 2027 and called for further pressure on Russia.

"I hope that peace will be achieved by 2027. I believe that recent months have been marked by decisions that have become real turning points," he said at a joint press conference with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Paris on Monday.

Macron also believes that uniting the EU with the United States and key partners to put pressure on Russia is crucial, and that the decision on sanctions, which the USA adopted against two major Russian oil and gas companies, is "a turning point that will begin to bear fruit simultaneously with the intensification of our actions against the Russian shadow fleet, which finances more than a third of Russia's military actions."

"Overall, I believe we've changed the situation in terms of pressure in recent weeks," he said.

According to Macron, this pressure and dialogue must now be maintained in cooperation with the United States.

"For my part, I remain determined to achieve this peace. I believe it is necessary to continue to increase pressure, as we are doing through sanctions and the fight against the shadow fleet, as well as by attracting more partners," he said.
