Education ministry recommends universities to extend vacations or distance learning until Feb 8
The Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine has recommended that higher education institutions extend vacations or study in a distance format until February 8, and a corresponding letter has already been sent to university rectors, Deputy Minister of Education and Science Mykola Trofymenko has said.
"At the same time, the final decision on the format of study is made by the higher education institution itself within the powers provided for by the autonomous status, taking into account the security and energy situation on the spot," Trofymenko wrote on Facebook.
He noted that at the same time, universities across the country continue to deploy support centers for students and employees, as well as - if possible - for people nearby.
"In Kyiv, student associations have initiated the organization of assistance to the elderly and people with limited mobility. The Ministry of Education and Science is coordinating this process together with the Ministry of Social Policy, Family and Unity of Ukraine and international partners in order to most effectively use available resources and protect volunteers in difficult weather conditions," he added.
As reported, due to the consequences of the emergency situation, the government has decided to temporarily suspend the in-person educational process in preschool, general secondary, vocational, pre-university and higher education institutions, depending on the security situation in the region. The State Educational Service and other interested central executive bodies, taking into account the decisions of the relevant commissions on TEB and Emergencies, must urgently take measures to: switch to distance learning or extend/introduce winter holidays until February 1, 2026. The Kyiv City State Administration — to introduce an extension or establishment of winter holidays until February 1, 2026. In Kyiv, preschool educational institutions make decisions to continue work, taking into account the situation on the ground.
