Resident Representative Office in Ukraine Vacancy Announcement Economist

The IMF Resident Representative Office in Kyiv has an opening for an Economist. The selected candidate will play a pivotal role in enhancing the IMF’s understanding of the Ukrainian economy, with a specific focus on monitoring and analyzing structural reforms.

Key Responsibilities:

• Track and analyze developments in structural reforms, with a focus on the energy sector, SOE corporate governance, governance and anti-corruption, and the rule of law.
• Participate in working groups, seminars, and other engagements on structural reforms, collaborating with authorities, IFIs, civil society organizations, and the private sector.
• Support and coordinate technical assistance (TA) in structural reform areas provided by the IMF and other IFIs, including providing feedback on TA reports, assisting in the logistical organization of IMT TA missions, and participating in missions when needed.
• Share updates and discuss structural reforms with the team and contribute to papers, presentations, and speeches related to structural reforms that the team will deliver.
• Additional responsibilities beyond the structural agenda may include other tasks, such as monitoring press coverage for relevant news on Ukraine and producing summaries.

Qualifications:

• Graduate degree in economics, finance or law, with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional or research experience
• Good understanding of current economic developments in Ukraine, along with a strong grasp of the political and social context, and interest in structural reforms.  
• Proficiency in maintaining Excel spreadsheets, with ability to visualize data.
• Native proficiency in Ukrainian and fluency in English, with ability to draft concise, comprehensive, and analytically clear reports and updates in English. 
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and diplomatic skills, and the ability to communicate with government officials.
• Initiative, resourcefulness, drive for results, ability to multitask under pressure, critical thinking and sound judgement in handling confidential information.
