Zelenskyy enforces NSDC decision on sanctions against Georgian authorities
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree imposing sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili and 19 other people.
"I have just signed a decree that enforces the decision of the National Security and Defense Council on sanctions. These are sanctions against that part of the government in Georgia that is giving Georgia up to Putin right now," Zelenskyy said in a video address on Thursday morning.
The President emphasized that this is what the protests in Georgia are about now. In addition, Zelenskyy noted the importance of "partners also now speaking about their position, honestly stating what is happening. And we must act."
"This is what happens in international affairs: if you do not react in time or if you do not react in a fundamental way, then what follows are lost decades, and countries are deprived of their freedom," the President explained.
He stressed that "we cannot lose anyone in this region - neither Georgia, nor Moldova, nor Ukraine. We must defend ourselves against Moscow together."
According to him, Ukraine has imposed sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili and his accomplices - 19 people, those "who are selling out the interests of Georgia and people."
Ukraine also calls on Europe, the United States, and everyone in the world to act in the same fundamental way.
Relevant decree on the application of sanctions No. 816/2024 has been published on the website of the head of the Ukrainian state.
The annex to the document states that the sanctions have been applied to 19 Georgian citizens, including Ivanishvili, for a period of 10 years.
